Recreating the Hard-to-Find Volvo S70 C70 V70R Front Upper Grille 9178483

Sometimes the hardest part of keeping an older Volvo complete is not finding a major mechanical component. It is finding one specific exterior part that has slowly disappeared from the market.

That was exactly the case with the Volvo S70 C70 V70R Front Upper Grille 9178483.

Finding an original grille was practically impossible. When genuine examples do appear, they are usually used, and after more than two decades their condition can vary significantly. Current parts listings show how limited the supply has become — exact 9178483 Volvo grilles are frequently sold out, unavailable or only occasionally offered second-hand.

Why Volvo Grille 9178483 Is So Difficult to Find

Part number 9178483 comes from the first-generation S70/V70-era Volvo parts catalogue. Historical SKANDIX documentation lists it as a genuine Volvo radiator grille, while current used-part listings also associate the same grille with S70, C70 and first-generation V70 applications.

The problem is simple: these cars are getting older, while the number of good original parts is getting smaller.

A grille can be cracked, its mounting points can be damaged, the plastic can become brittle, or the trim and emblem can be missing. Once a good original disappears, there is no guarantee another one will become available.

That made this a perfect part to recreate.

Recreating the Original Grille

The aim was not to redesign the Volvo front end. We wanted to reproduce the original grille as accurately as possible and make it available again.

The Volvo 9178483 front grille was carefully measured and recreated with the correct overall proportions, internal grille pattern and mounting geometry.

As with our other replacement parts, achieving the final result required more than simply making one model and printing it. The design was refined and checked until the dimensions and fitment matched the original part as closely as possible.

The finished grille is produced at 1:1 OEM dimensions and can be ordered with the logo or without it, including the required locations for installing the badges separately.

Keeping Hard-to-Find Volvo Parts Available

This is exactly why recreating older automotive parts matters.

There are still many Volvo S70, C70 and V70 cars being restored and maintained, but some of the original exterior components are becoming increasingly difficult to source.

Instead of waiting for another usable original Volvo 9178483 grille to appear, modern manufacturing gives us the possibility to bring the part back.

Sometimes the goal is not to improve or modernize a classic design.

Sometimes it is simply to make sure the part is still available.
